ACL Surgery

An ACL tear can occur when the knee is injured during sports or after an awkward fall. The knee is often painful and swollen and typically an MRI scan will help in getting the diagnosis.
If the knee is unstable or likely to cause further injury, surgery with physiotherapy before and after may be required. A large number of ACL injuries (up to 50%) occur in combination with an additional injury such as damage to the meniscus, articular cartilage, or other ligaments.

At Victorian Bone & Joint Specialists, our surgeons will examine your knee to determine if in fact an ACL tear has occurred. An MRI will also determine if there is an injury to another knee ligament, the meniscus or articular cartilage.
