After completing his specialist training in 2009, he was appointed Orthopaedic Consultant at St Vincent’s Public and Maroondah Hospitals. He further honed his skills with Fellowships in the UK, gaining extensive experience in complex hip and knee replacements, including primary and revision surgeries at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. His second Fellowship at the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire focused on hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), hip and groin pain, and sports medicine, treating elite British athletes.

Since returning to Australia in late 2011, Francis has been practicing as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in private practice. He is an expert in anterior minimally invasive hip replacement surgery, achieving excellent results in treating arthritis and neck of femur fractures. Francis has also been a leading MAKO robotic surgeon, specialising in knee replacements since 2016, and is one of the few surgeons with access to the MAKO robot at all his hospital sites.

In addition to his clinical work, Francis has been a co-supervisor for the Australian Orthopaedic Association-approved hip and knee fellowship program since 2015, teaching surgeons from Australia, New Zealand, and abroad. He continues to refine and teach advanced techniques in arthroplasty, arthroscopy, and reconstruction.

Francis is available for consultations and urgent referrals from general practitioners, sports physicians, physiotherapists, and allied health professionals.
