What is PRP?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a concentrated component of your own blood that contains a high number of platelets. These platelets are rich in growth factors that promote tissue repair and regeneration. PRP injections harness the body's own healing capabilities to provide relief from various knee conditions.
Who is a Candidate for PRP?
PRP injections can be recommended for:
Some forms of arthritis of the knee.
Tendon injuries or chronic tendinopathy.
Ligament sprains or strains.
Other chronic knee conditions where conservative treatments have failed.
Always consult with our team to determine if PRP is the right choice for your specific situation.
Benefits of PRP
Uses your own blood, reducing the risk of allergic reactions.
Minimally invasive with fast recovery times compared to surgery.
Natural alternative to medications and corticosteroid injections.
Potential to stimulate longer-lasting healing.
The PRP Procedure
Blood Draw: A small amount of blood is taken from your arm.
Separation: Using a centrifuge, the blood is processed to concentrate the platelets.
Preparation: The PRP is then prepared for injection.
Injection: Using ultrasound guidance, the PRP is injected into the affected area of the knee.
After the Procedure
You may experience some swelling or discomfort in the injection area. This is a normal response and is part of the healing process.
Avoid putting undue stress or weight on the treated knee for at least 48 hours.
Ice can be applied to reduce swelling, but avoid using anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen, as they can interfere with the healing response.
We'll provide you with a tailored post-injection care plan to ensure optimal recovery.
Important Considerations
As with any medical procedure, PRP injections are not without risk. However, adverse reactions are rare.
The success of PRP therapy can vary among individuals. Some may require multiple treatments to achieve desired results.
PRP is a part of a comprehensive treatment plan. It may be combined with physical therapy, exercise, and other treatments.
